The 2023 Met Gala, hosted by Vogue editor Anna Wintour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, is known for showcasing some of the most exquisite and glamorous looks. However, this year’s event was not without its share of fashion fails and sartorial nightmares.
From clashing patterns to weirdly-shaped frocks and over-the-top ruffles, many of Hollywood’s elite missed the mark with their outfit choices at the star-studded ball. Among those who stood out for all the wrong reasons were Florence Pugh, Jennifer Lopez, Janelle Monáe, Amanda Seyfried, Ariana DeBose, Kate Moss, Irina Shayk, Rachel Brosnahan, Kim Petras, Jenna Ortega, and Cara Delevingne.
Janelle, in particular, led the worst-dressed list with her bizarre nearly naked look. She wore a pair of black, sparkling underwear and a matching bra, which she paired with a cone-like, see-through piece of fabric on top. Ariana came in a close second with her unflattering zip-up yellow dress with fur sleeves and an odd ruffle along the waistline.
Other fashion fails included Amanda’s revealing gown made of strings, Florence’s huge feather headpiece, Kate’s nightgown-like dress, and Irina’s dress with strange ruffles resembling a rolled-up curtain.
Jennifer’s gown left little to the imagination with two pieces of fabric that went across her chest, as well as an eye-popping floral neckpiece. Rachel wore a nearly-naked dress that was see-through from the waist up but used black jewels to cover her nipples, while Kim paired bedazzled boots with a bizarre black and white gown.
Both Jared Leto and Doja Cat came dressed as felines, and actress Phillipa Soo wore a strange black-and-white polka-dotted gown with an awkward neckline and feathers. SNL alum Chloe Fineman wore an over-the-top pink sparkly gown with black roses and sheer sleeves, while actor Harvey Guillen showed up in a pink flowing ensemble with huge flower embellishments.
Despite the fashion fails, the Met Gala remains one of the most talked-about and coveted events of the year.
