New York Earthquake Today

This morning, an uncommon earthquake shook New York, causing houses to tremble in certain parts of the state.

Seismologists have reported a magnitude of 2.2, occurring in the early hours of Friday, accompanied by a distinct 'loud rumble.'

According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake originated approximately one mile south-southwest of Hastings-on-Hudson.

Residents throughout the area took to social media, sharing their experiences of feeling the quake. Reports emerged from the Bronx in the south and even across the Hudson River in New Jersey.

Some New York locals mentioned hearing the rumble and speculated whether it might have been an explosion.

By 3 a.m. local time, there were no reports of any damage or injuries, thus dismissing the speculation of an explosion as baseless.

Interestingly, this earthquake follows closely after another seismic event in upstate New York, where Buffalo experienced a 3.8 magnitude quake back in February.

The epicenter of that earthquake was pinpointed at a distance of 1.3 miles from West Seneca, and its shockwaves reverberated through Lackawanna, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Tonawanda.
